When employees call The Friendship School a family, they mean it in every sense of the word. After all, many of their own children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews are students or part of the school’s greater legacy.
On Friday, Dec. 7, TFS welcomed current and former students for a special photo. All the students are the children of TFS or other LEARN employees who have come to love the school, its dedication to inquiry, and the warm and inviting environment created by teachers and staff members.
Pre-kindergarten teacher Abbie Calvert’s two children, Aiden and Molly, both attended TFS. Calvert said they entered grade school well prepared for the challenges they face.
“The Friendship School got them off to a fantastic start,” Calvert said. “Both are above grade level in reading and math.”
Teacher Colleen St. John’s son, Waylon, is a kindergartner at the school. She delights in seeing him every day and the advancements he’s made in the years. “I’ve seen him grow so much since he got here,” St. John said.
Special Education teacher Jo-Ann Del Grosso has four grandchildren who attended TFS. She said each of them had a wonderful experience and credited great teachers for setting a good foundation for learning.
“There is a real sense of family here with an emphasis on getting along,” Del Grosso said. “The early childhood piece is very important.”
Social Worker Kyrah Augmon-Bossa partners with TFS and LEARN through the Child & Family Agency. TFS makes her whole family feel very welcome, including her 3 year old daughter, Arya. Augmon-Bossa said she’s very happy and will apply for her 8 month old son when he is old enough for pre-kindergarten.
“I chose this school because there is a strong sense of unity here,” Augmon-Bossa said.
